Call center seeks to hire Indiantown residents to work from home

Old Cell Phone Co. plans to hire employees to work from home out of Indiantown.

The second day of a two-day job fair is set for Friday at the Indiantown Civic Center with the goal of hiring 41 customer service agents. Should the company find more talent, individuals could be hired to work out of its Palm City office.

Cambridge sweeps away outsourcing of hotel housekeepers

The Cambridge License Commission has approved a controversial first-in-the-nation regulation prohibiting hotels from contracting out their housekeeping work.

“Getting a license is a privilege, and as a city councilor I want to know that when we issue a license the highest standards of public health are being met,” said Marjorie Decker, the councilor who championed the rule. “If something happens, we don’t want to go to an out-of-state company for answers.”

IBM tops IT services market in Asean

IT analyst firm IDC has ranked IBM number one in Asean market share as measured by revenue.

According to IDC, IBM’s 2010 Asean services revenue was 31 percent more than the next closest competitor. IBM was also the market share leader in outsourcing and application management.

North American strategic document outsourcing market to grow 2.8%: Gartner

Market expected to reach $20.8bn in 2015

The North American strategic document outsourcing (SDO) market will grow to $17.6bn this year, a 2.8% increase from $17.2bn in 2010, according to IT market research firm Gartner.

The company added that the SDO market is expected to reach $18.3bn in 2012 and reach $20.8bn in 2015.

Gov’t to spend an initial P500M to train workers

AT LEAST P500 million has been set aside for the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to develop a training program for students and faculty of state universities and colleges (SUCs).

The program aims to address the labor demand of the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry, a Palace official said yesterday.

Budget Secretary Florencio B. Abad said the government was “making arrangements” for the training program with several industries.

Telus taps DLSU for program

Business process outsourcing firm Telus International Philippines has partnered with De La Salle University for a program that will allow its employees to either finish their undergraduate studies or pursue post-graduate degrees even while working.

The partnership is in support of the BPO service provider’s Telus International University (TIU) initiative, which also has the University of Asia and the Pacific as another partner. The first batch of TIU beneficiary-employees started classes on March 2.

State cashes in on BPO boom

Ahmedabad Several cities in the state are witnessing a rapid growth of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) firms, with industry heads estimating an annual growth rate of 15 to 30 per cent since 2000.

This, they say, is mainly because of competitive office-space prices, electricity supply, security and a substantial immigration of workers from other states to make up for what is normally considered poor English proficiency among domiciles.

BPO sector continues to report gains in 2nd quarter, BSP says

The Philippines’ business process outsourcing (BPO) industry continue to report gains in the second quarter of 2011, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said, adding top contributors came from computer and information, and miscellaneous business, professional, and technical services.

Net receipts from trade-in-services expanded to $657 million in the second quarter of 2011, more than double the $324 million net receipts registered in the same quarter last year, the BSP report said.

Healthcare BPO moves up the value ladder

The local healthcare business process outsourcing sector is steadily going up the value chain, going beyond medical transcription, and is now ready to provide jobs to 86,000 nurses from now to end-2016.

According to Healthcare Information Management Outsourcing Association of the Philippines president Myla Reyes, many local BPO firms were already providing high-value services such as clinical coding, disease management, utilization reviews, revenue cycle management, and pharmaceutical benefits management.
